When the wind blows on a hot afternoon and you take that deep inhale and cherish it like your last breath before you let it out
Waking up and not knowing where you want to go or what you want to do
The smile that comes to your face when you see kids play and you remember when you used to do that
When being tongue-tied wasn't an obstacle
When the hardest decisions you had to make was what cereal to eat or what cartoons to watch
Love wasn't a game
Trust wasn't a option
Opinions didn't matter
Those days when going outside to play was way more important than the myspace, the facebook, and the tweeting of the little tweeties
The days didn't seem long enough because fun stole sunlight
The stars were fascinating
Relationships with parents weren't as transparent
When the streetlight came on expecting a call from my mother
Having fun on rainy days with my sisters and my brothers
When times were simple
When I didn't have to worry about bitches and pimples
When the clothes you wore didn't matter
When speaking freely didn't get you killed
When being an individual really mattered
When pants were baggy and white tee's were long
When money over bitches, and fuck the police weren't in my favorite songs
When rappers were poets and dancers were artist
When cheesy jokes were cool and we said yo mama instead of that's gay or retarded
When parents came with marriage and you in the carriage
When a family portrait is something you must have to love and cherish
When there were dreams of going to the moon or going to Paris
When life meant more than paychecks and good clothes
The days before music videos turned into pornos
When wolves weren't around to live in sheep's clothes
Those days before we idolized pimps for all their money and hoes
I'm still for the music and the bouncing of a ball
I'll sing when I feel like it and I can dance til I fall
I will talk on the phone til I lose service and it drops the call
But the old days are what I'm about
What about y'all
Me
You say so much in this poem! Awesome job!
